Bio:

Shannon Atkinson is a native of Bowling Green, Kentucky. She graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (cum laude). While pursuing her Bachelor’s degree, she worked as a research assistant (National Institute of Health research grant) and was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for her exceptional academic achievement. Following graduation, she worked as a registered nurse in the coronary care unit for four years while pursuing higher education. She graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2003 with a Master of Science in Nursing (summa cum laude). She received Kathleen S. Nelson scholarship while attending Vanderbilt. After obtaining her MSN, she worked at Southern Kentucky Rehabilitation Hospital for three years prior to joining the gastroenterology department at Graves Gilbert Clinic in 2006. She has participated as a sub-investigator in multiple research studies directed at the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, hepatitis C, fatty liver, and irritable bowel syndrome while working at Graves Gilbert Clinic. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is delighted to provide care to the residents of Southcentral Kentucky. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, camping, scuba diving, and traveling.
